The Coughlan story

Cork, Ireland to Arkansas, USA · 2016

My name is Damien Coughlan. I grew up on a family farm in Innishannon, County Cork, Ireland. From a very young age, my father taught me the value of hard work, responsibility, and making the most of what you have.

My childhood was spent driving tractors, tending sheep and cattle, cutting corn, and helping with whatever needed doing around the farm. Farming wasn't a nine-to-five job. There were early mornings, long evenings, and plenty of hard work, especially during harvest season. Looking back, those years working alongside my father taught me lessons that no classroom ever could.

But even as a young boy growing up in rural Ireland, I had a dream. I wanted to travel, experience different cultures, and, above all, see America.

America always fascinated me. It seemed like a place of endless possibilities, where someone willing to work hard, take risks, and think big could build something of their own.

After finishing school, I went to college, eventually earning a master's degree in E-Commerce and Marketing. My career took me into the technology industry, including the incredible experience of working in Silicon Valley, California, with a major technology company.

Coming from a small farming community in County Cork to working in one of the world's leading technology hubs was quite a journey. Silicon Valley opened my eyes to entrepreneurship, innovation, and the American mindset of turning ideas into businesses.

Eventually, my journey brought me to Little Rock, Arkansas, a place very different from California but one that reminded me of home. The people were friendly, the communities were close-knit, and there was a genuine appreciation for hard work and keeping your word.

It was here that I founded Shamrock Lands, a real estate investment company specializing in purchasing vacant land and unwanted properties throughout the USA.

Our mission is simple: help property owners sell their land and unwanted real estate quickly, fairly, and without the usual hassle. We purchase properties for cash, including neglected lots, abandoned houses, inherited properties, and land burdened by unpaid taxes or liens.

For many owners, these properties have become financial or emotional burdens. We offer a straightforward solution, handling the complicated details and helping people move forward. Many of the properties we purchase eventually find new life through redevelopment and new housing.

There's something rather fitting about it all. I started my life working the land with my father in Ireland, and today I've built a business around land in America.

When I reflect on my journey, from driving tractors through the fields of County Cork to working in Silicon Valley and building my own company in Arkansas, I realize how fortunate I've been.

The American dream is not about where you start. It's about having the courage to pursue something bigger while never forgetting where you came from.

My roots will always be Irish, but America gave me the opportunity to grow.
