The Harte story

Cork, Ireland to New Jersey, USA · 1991

After spending the summer of 1990 as a college student in Wildwood NJ with my college friends, i fell in love with America. The American people I met, both at work and at play , were the most considerate, friendly people i had ever met.

After returning home that autumn my mum received a green card from the USA lottery which I benefited from since I was under the age of 21. I decided to return to the USA the next year at the age of 20.

My American friends helped me find a cheap apartment in south Philadelphia and i obtained a temp job with a small local mortgage company in south jersey. 34 years later I am still living the American dream.

Low income tax, endless employment opportunity and some of the most amazing people I have worked for over the years have given me the real “land of opportunity” experience.

The best way to describe my life here is the ‘abundance theory”. America allows everyone to create their own story of success and everyone I have worked for, celebrates this for each other.

As an Irish American I have been celebrated for my heritage and loved by so many other Irish Americans I have met over the years. Ireland will always be special to me and I still visit often. Its culture has had a tremendous impact in the USA. No doubt the same warmth felt by many different cultures here. Americans make everyone feel welcome. It’s what they do so well in every aspect of life here. I do believe my Irish background has taught me the best work ethic which has lead to my success in the USA. Growing up in Ireland in the 80’s, we took nothing for granted. My parents worked hard to get ahead , they taught me nothing great is achieved without hard work and some sacrifices.

I thank my Irish father every day for how he raised me. He knew the life I could have here in the USA was also living the dream he had for me.
