The Londra story
I first moved to New York City in 1989 on a year's visa as an RN, and the place felt like home from the day I arrived. I returned in 1998 with Riverdance, becoming the lead singer of the show on Broadway.
I drifted west, living in Chicago and now Ames, Iowa, where I live with my partner Mark (an Iowan) and 2 dogs. My working life is a combination of producing and hosting 'Ireland with Michael', the longest-running and most-aired Irish series on PBS®, which takes me home a lot during the year. I also tour as a concert singer and now produce musical theatre, which takes me back to New York City a lot.
The TV show is a culmination of everything I do as an artist, advocating for Ireland by highlighting its greatest asset, its artists. Each episode highlights places to go in Ireland as a tourist through a creative lens. We meet poets, singers, dancers, chefs, craftspeople, and small businesses all over the country. We work closely with the incredible team at Tourism Ireland. The show airs in 182 markets and is available in 97% of homes in the US in 49 states (Shoutout to Hawaii!) We are about to launch Season 7. We have a Documentary special coming this fall titled Samhain - The Birth of Halloween.
